griot majors

We have 6 majors at Griot. Each student must pick a major to focus on for the semester. Students must take at least two classes in their major during each semester. Our classes vary each semester based on teacher availability and student interest.

music

Music classes range from keyboarding and songwriting, to guitar, ensemble, mobile music lab with Delta State University, to violin/folk band, and choir. Our music students learn song writing and performance skills in addition to a wide variety of instruments.

dance

Our dances classes have ranged from classical ballet, modern dance to hip-hop. Students are taught the fundamentals of movement and choreography and learn routines to perform at our semester performances.

river arts

Griot has partnered with Quapaw Canoe Company to offer river arts classes twice a week. Students learn the basics of paddling, river safety skills, canoe carving, water colors, and other river skills.

Theater majors learn improv games, monologue skills, how to write and perform original skits and how to interpret skits.

visual arts

Our visual arts classes include painting, digital design and 3D modeling, drawing, and mural painting. Students are taught fundamental design skills and guided into creating original works of art that are on display during out performances.

culinary arts

The students in our culinary arts classes, enjoy learning to cook from a variety of teachers, including accomplished chefs in our community. During warm weather, students in the cooking classes also enjoy learning about gardening.
